White rot fungus degrades DDT and dioxin

Bumpus and colleagues showed the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium degraded DDT, PCBs, a dioxin, lindane and benzo[a]pyrene to carbon dioxide using its lignin-degrading enzymes.
